Out of the Frying Pan
"I wish I'd gotten drunker before that happened." "I believe someone instructed you ta do that... shoulda listened to em." - Me and Alsthar
During the invasions and occupation of Solhaven, the Captain's Rest was being used for gatherings. At one point Draezir detonated something just outside and deadly shards flew in. We all moved into the Wheel Room, which had been the triage area through the whole ordeal, for safety. Draezir was unhappy. (Thanks to Shonison for some of the following log.)
You hear the faint thoughts of Kilthal echo in your mind: "Everyone out of the Wheel room if ye can."
Draezir slams the door shut, and places his hand over the doorknob. Slowly, the lock and handle begin to melt.
Kilthal: "Draezir just melted the doorknob."
Mnar: "I don't know which side of the door it will happen on, but I predict
something bad."
Draezir: "Ruler says no more wheel room. Slaves who can't behave themselves
get no privileges."
Kilthal: "Usurpers dunnae get any priveleges at all."
Kilthal: "Perhaps yer tent should be revoked."
Mnar says, "Okay, everyone join up."
Mnar says, "I'll fog us to the Plaza, it's safe there."
You say, "And everyone means everyone."
You say, "You don't want to be stuck here with no fogger."
Asben joins Mnar's group.
Mnar nods to you.
Mnar says, "I do mean everyone"
Mnar says, "Especially you dead people"
Mnar is the leader of your group.
Poldarath is also a member of your group.
Chalandrah is also a member of your group.
Shonison is also a member of your group.
Dagnyr is also a member of your group.
Asben is also a member of your group.
Mnar reaches down and tenderly cradles Mokuba's lifeless hand in his.
[Captain's Rest, Wheel Room]
Upon the east wall is a large carved wheel from a ship. The spokes are carved
in fanciful representations of sea creatures. The large bedstead is covered
in a thick blue and gold quilt. A fireplace fills one wall, with a hand carved
model of a sailing ship on the mantle. Wide windows look out over the bay
outside. You also see some manna bread, a modwir door and a silken crimson
banner embroidered with an ebony jackal's head on a field of gold.
Also in the room: Mnar, Poldarath, Lady Chalandrah, the body of Mokuba who
is lying down, Lord Shonison, the body of Gruenbak who is lying down, Dagnyr,
Asben who is kneeling, Samarac
Obvious exits: none.
Mnar reaches down and tenderly cradles Gruenbak's lifeless hand in his.
Mnar says, "Ten seconds and I'm fogging."
Mnar asks, "Everyone ready?"
You nod.
Dagnyr nods.
Mnar nods.
Mnar says, "Ah"
Mnar says, "Issue."
Poldarath asks, "no magic in here?"
Mnar says, "No magic in here."
You hear the ghostly voice of Gruenbak ask, "Thats a joke, right?"
Mnar says, "Let's not focus on the negative."
Mnar says, "We can still break a window."
>think I haven't made any new prayers at all. You can't lock me in here.
You focus on projecting your thoughts...
Round time: 5 seconds.
(Shonison swings his shovel at the windows)
You say, "Well, we could all die and decay."
A sudden tingle fills your mind as the thoughts that once were there are cut off.
Dagnyr exclaims, "ack!"
You hear the ghostly voice of Gruenbak ask, "What was that?"
Mnar says, "Can't think."
Dagnyr frets.
The power from your sign dissipates into the air.
You say, "Well."
(Shonison hits the windows again)
Mnar gulps.
Dagnyr says, "we are in a tight situation here"
You say, "At least I'm not stuck with anyone I really hate."
You remove a small razor-sharp hatchet from in your cloak.
You hear the ghostly voice of Gruenbak ask, "Attack the door?"
(Juspera smacks the windows with her hatchet.)
Be at peace my child, there is no need to fight here.
Mnar says, "Ironically, we're in a sanctuary"
You say, "I can barely summon the will to do anything aggressive."
A dark-robed lupine mage steps out from the shadows!
You ask, "Can we climb out the chimney?"
A dark-robed lupine mage notices Mnar botch an attempt at concealing himself.
You shriek!
A dark-robed lupine mage points at a spot just beyond your feet.
A burst of flames erupts from the floor and soon a furious fire begins consuming
anything combustible there.
A dark-robed lupine mage jumps into a shadow.
Chalandrah flails her arms about.
Dagnyr says, "er"
You hear a bump from a modwir door.
(Juspera blows ridiculously on the fire.)
Mnar says, "This is an issue."
You hear the ghostly voice of Gruenbak say, "They better be working on the door from the outside"
Poldarath exclaims, "Lominstra deliver us!"
(Dagnyr holds his breath)
Now and again, resin in some burning wood is ignited by the flames and the fire hisses loudly. The sharp smell of the scorched resin permeates the air and invades your nostrils.
You cough.
Mnar says, "Get low."
Mnar sits down.
You kneel down.

Samarac
Obvious exits: none.
Mnar says, "Ironic, there's a fireplace in this room."
You ask, "No one has any water?"
Dagnyr offers you a simple jar.
You accept Dagnyr's offer and are now holding a simple jar.
>l in jar
There is nothing in there.
Dagnyr shrugs.
(Shonison shovels soot from the fireplace and attempts to smother the fire)
You hear the ghostly voice of Gruenbak say, "I got a few gallons of moonshine on me, so I figure Im gonna go up good"
Mnar says, "We could try to smother the fire with Gruenbak."
Shonison gently rolls the lifeless body of Gruenbak over.
Sparks shoot up from the flames to dance in the hot air above the fire. Most glow brightly for a time and then slowly burn up and wink out, but an alarming few drift off, still glowing red hot.
Shonison gently rolls the lifeless body of Gruenbak over.
Shonison gently rolls the lifeless body of Gruenbak over.
Mnar nods to Shonison.
Mnar gently rolls the lifeless body of Gruenbak over.
Mnar gently rolls the lifeless body of Gruenbak over.
Suddenly, small shadows creeps out from the corner of your eye, and you notice the air begins to blur with vaporous heat.
The air continues to undulate around you as the shadows rise up to form a distinct humanoid-like shape. Slowly, Draezir walks out of the shadows towards you. With a twist of Draezir's hand, the shadows return to their place, and the air stills once again.
Draezir glances at a fireplace.
Mnar asks, "Ironic, isn't it?"
Draezir shakes his head, clucking his tongue.
Poldarath just poured a Wort's Winter ale on Draezir!
Poldarath just poured a Wort's Winter ale on Draezir!
Poldarath just tried to pour a Wort's Winter ale on Draezir! Fortunately, he was able to dodge out of the way.
Draezir blinks.
Draezir claps his hands together sharply, and shadows coalesce around Poldarath.
Poldarath suddenly stares around wildly, as she whirls in a frantic circle. Suddenly she screams and falls to the ground!
You hear the ghostly voice of Gruenbak say, "She was just trying to keep you from gettin burnt, Im sure"
(Dagnyr hides behind Juspera)
Mnar stands up.
Poor baby!
Draezir asks, "Now then, you going to be behaving?"
You exclaim, "I was behaving the whole time!"
Mnar says, "For seven days."
Draezir glances at Mnar.
Draezir reaches down and tenderly cradles Gruenbak's lifeless hand in his.
Draezir glances out the corner of his eye, and smiles slightly. Suddenly, Draezir claps his hands together and the shadows begin to move all around you. As the shadows melt away, you notice Mnar standing in their place, looking dumbfounded.
Draezir smirks.
Mnar mutters under his breath.
Poldarath suddenly raises a hand as if to block an unseen foe, and after a moment her hand explodes in a violent burst of blood and bone!
Draezir reaches out and holds Dagnyr's hand.
Draezir clasps your hand tenderly.
Draezir reaches out and holds Shonison's hand.
Draezir clasps Chalandrah's hand tenderly.
Draezir grabs Poldarath's hand.
Draezir glances at Mnar.
You hear the ghostly voice of Gruenbak say, "I tell you what Draezir"
You hear the ghostly voice of Gruenbak say, "I think Id rather burn"
Mnar bites his lip.
Draezir asks, "Well?"
Draezir raises an eyebrow in Mnar's direction.
As the air currents shift, you are buffeted by acrid waves of withering heat and billows of hot smoke from the raging fire.
Mnar says, "They'll break the door down eventually."
Draezir glances at the fire.
Mnar says, "If not, there's a window."
Draezir says, "You'll be dead before they break through the wards I placed on it."
Poldarath suddenly gasps and covers her head with her arms as if trying to cover herself, and within seconds her hand flies off as if bitten away by some unseen force! Poldarath lets out a blood-curdling scream soon after and blood begins to trickle from her ears.
Poldarath asks, "Is that the best you can do to an empath?"
Draezir says, "Your choice."
You see Lord Draezir Moltoniron the Sheruvian High Priest.
He appears to be very old, has long, braided white hair, slate grey eyes,
and tanned skin.
He is in good shape.
He is holding an ebon-hilted crimson vultite longsword in his right hand
and an intricately carved felwood staff inlaid with thin black ora in his
left hand.
He is wearing some dark leather boots, a narrow black ora sheath inlaid with
crushed rubies, an intricate crimson vaalin unholy symbol of Sheru, some
heavy black velvet robes sewn with runes the color of warm blood and a faded
leather satchel.
Mnar glances at you.
(Juspera worms her hand away from Draezir but holds to his robes.)
You say, "Come on, Mnar."
Poldarath says, "Looking at you causes more pain than you're giving to me"
Mnar says, "Seven days, Draezir."
Mnar says, "Your toadies are safe for seven more days."
Draezir says, "My redecorating will be done before seven days."
Draezir simply grins.
You hear the ghostly voice of Gruenbak say, "Draezir, if you would, let go of me"
The fire dies down a bit until it finds some fresh fuel to burn. Then the flames dance higher as they feast.
Chalandrah makes a wheezing sound.
Chalandrah ducks her head.
Draezir glances at Gruenbak.
Draezir says, "I don't talk to corpses."
Mnar coughs.
You take a deep breath.
Draezir says, "Now then."
Draezir asks, "Shall you burn, or come with me?"
Poldarath says, "I'd hold you if I could Gruenbak"
You hear the ghostly voice of Gruenbak say, "Thanks Poldarath"
Shonison says, "I know when I am beaten. I will come"
Mnar says, "I cannot imagine anything good would come from owing you my life."
Draezir says, "You can stay and burn to death, and I'll come get your carcass anyhow, or you can come with me alive."
You glance at Mnar.
A length of timber crashes and falls over into the fire. The flames grow upon it slowly like roses awakening until the whole log is aglow with a garden of embers.
Draezir says, "Time is wasting."
Mnar says, "That is a debt I would prefer to avoid."
Mnar winces.
Mnar ducks his head.
You sigh.
You leave Draezir's group.
You join Mnar.
You rub your eyes.
Dagnyr joins Mnar's group.
Dagnyr nods to Mnar.
Draezir says, "Suit yourself."
A pained expression crosses Mnar's face.
Draezir glances around the area and slowly raises his hands, and claps them sharply together! Shadows begin to churn and dance around in every direction!
The air begins to blur with vaporous heat as the shadows slowly gather around Draezir. With a nod of Draezir's head, the shadows lunge forward and consume him and his entire group. Darkness surrounds them utterly as the air continues to ripple around you. With a quiet sigh, the shadows slowly melt away, leaving nothing behind as they return to their proper place.
You gag deep in your throat, making a choking sound.
Mnar kneels down.
Poldarath rubs you.

Obvious exits: none.
You lie down.
Dagnyr kneels down and begins to recite prayers.
Mnar says, "Stay as low as you can"
Mnar lies down.
You cover your eyes with your hands, peeking through your fingers.
You cough.
The fire rages wildly around you, slowly creeping towards you.
(Juspera yanks off the drapes from the window, and tosses them toward the fire.)
Poldarath kneels down.
Poldarath growls ferociously!
You cough.
You take a deep breath.
You cough.
Dagnyr rubs you.
You hear a bump from a modwir door.
The flames glimmer, red and scarlet, orange and yellow, as they flare and climb upward above each other.
Mnar says, "Try breathing under the door."
Dagnyr knocks on a modwir door.
A sharp knocking sound emanates from a modwir door.
Sweat begins to pour down from your face as the fire creeps ever more closer.
You knock upon a modwir door.
A sharp knocking sound emanates from a modwir door.
Dagnyr yells, "help!"
Dagnyr makes a wheezing sound.
You say, "I think you're right."
You say, "I should not owe Draezir my life."
Mnar says, "If any of you have alternate ways of getting out of a locked room, I'd use them now."
The power from your sign dissipates into the air.
You say, "I can't."
(Mnar curls up into a ball, covering himself with his cloak.)
(Juspera curls up in a ball too.)
Fire begins to lick at Juspera's legs.
You shriek!
A pained expression crosses Mnar's face.
(Juspera pulls back, jerking her legs away.)
Dagnyr knocks on a modwir door.
A sharp knocking sound emanates from a modwir door.
Mnar squints.
Mnar yells, "Can you hear us out there?!"
Fire catches on Mnar's cloak, consuming away at the leather fabric.
Mnar says, "Well, either they can't hear us or they don't care."
I found out later that they could in fact hear us yelling, but we couldn't hear them.
Mnar exclaims, "Gah! GAH!"
Mnar just tried to pull a dark leather Dhe'nari scout cloak.
Mnar removes a dark leather Dhe'nari scout cloak from his shoulders.
You thump Mnar!
Mnar drops a dark leather Dhe'nari scout cloak.
(Mnar bunches the cloak up into a ball)
Mnar picks up a dark leather Dhe'nari scout cloak.
You have minor bruises on your neck, and a completely severed right leg.
You clench your jaw.
You say, "My leg."
Poldarath gasps.
Poldarath meditates over you.
Poldarath takes your right leg damage.
Mnar yells, "If you can hear us get this door open!!!"
A sharp knocking sound emanates from a modwir door.
* Dagnyr drops dead at your feet!
Poldarath gasps.
Poldarath screams!
A sharp knocking sound emanates from a modwir door.
A sharp knocking sound emanates from a modwir door.
A sharp knocking sound emanates from a modwir door.
Poldarath says, "That was foul"
Mnar stands up.
Mnar exclaims, "Draezir!"
Fire begins to spread wildly, feasting upon Dagnyr's corpse.
Mnar exclaims, "Take them out of here!"
Mnar exclaims, "They have not defied you!"
(Juspera curls up again, covering her head with her hands.)
You close your eyes for a moment.
* Poldarath drops dead at your feet!
You hear the ghostly voice of Poldarath say, "It's about time"
You hear the ghostly voice of Dagnyr exclaim, "ack!"
Mnar says, "No.."
Mnar yells, "DRAEZIR!"
You hear the ghostly voice of Dagnyr ask, "flask? juspera?"
You quietly say, "A flask won't work in here."
You hear the ghostly voice of Dagnyr say, "oh no"
You remove a white flask from in your cloak.
You force Dagnyr's mouth open, and pour in a small amount from your white
flask.
Your magic fizzles ineffectually.
You have 2 doses left.
A sharp knocking sound emanates from a modwir door.
A sharp knocking sound emanates from a modwir door.
You knock upon a modwir door.
You lie down.
Mnar yells, "They do not deserve this!!"
Juspera's boots begin to be smothered with flames.
(Juspera pulls her feet back further, if possible.)
The spirit of Dagnyr sighs softly, raising the hairs on the back of your neck.
Mnar says, "We'll get you out of here, don't worry, don't worry..."
You hear the ghostly voice of Dagnyr say, "Thank you Mnar.. your a good man"
Mnar reaches down and grabs a hold of Poldarath's lifeless body.
Mnar reaches down and grabs a hold of Dagnyr's lifeless body.
The fire slowly works its way up your body, consuming and scorching flesh. Intense pain washes over you as your vision fades away to the inferno.
The buzz of thoughts in your mind subsides.
It seems you have died, my friend.
You hear the ghostly voice of Dagnyr exclaim, "no!"
You howl in frustration at your nonliving state!
Mnar sobs.
Mnar reaches down and grabs a hold of your lifeless body.
You quietly say, "Gods."
You quietly say, "That was worse than Setzier."
You hear the ghostly voice of Dagnyr say, "Mnar! hang in there"
Mnar says, "I'm sorry..."
Mnar kneels down.
You quietly say, "It's all right. It's over now."
You quietly say, "For me anyway."
Mnar is slowly consumed by the fire, nothing remains but a blackened corpse.
* Mnar drops dead at your feet!
The spirit of Mnar sighs softly, raising the hairs on the back of your neck.
You quietly say, "We owe him nothing."
You hear the ghostly voice of Dagnyr say, "atleast we died with honor"
You quietly ask, "Did it hurt?"
You hear the ghostly voice of Mnar say, "Eii.."

Draezir glances through the fire.
You hear the ghostly voice of Mnar say, "You didn't need to kill them, Draezir."
Poldarath's body decays into compost.
Draezir says, "My."
Draezir says, "Punishment is the best way to make people come to realization."
Draezir reaches down and grabs a hold of your lifeless body.
You hear the ghostly voice of Mnar say, "You'll just infuriate the town if you punish people who don't deserve it."
You hear the ghostly voice of Mnar say, "These people did nothing"
Draezir reaches down and grabs a hold of Mnar's lifeless body.
Draezir says, "Rot then."
Draezir glances at Dagnyr.
You quietly ask, "Mnar?"
You hear the ghostly voice of Mnar say, "Dagnyr..."
You hear the ghostly voice of Dagnyr say, "aye"

The air begins to blur with vaporous heat as the shadows slowly gather around you. With a nod of Draezir's head, the shadows lunge forward and consume you in their embrace! Utter darkness and what feels like your mind being skewered with needles overcomes your being. After what feels like centuries passing, the darkness and pain slowly melt away. You notice your surroundings have changed...
[Captain's Rest, Hallway]
Brass lamps hang on the well-polished modwir paneled walls. Blue carpeting
in a pattern reminiscent of waves in the sea runs the length of the hall.
Hanging on the wall opposite from a modwir door is a picture of a sunset
over a small island. You also see a silken crimson banner embroidered with
an ebony jackal's head on a field of gold.
Also in the room: the body of Mnar who is lying down, the body of Dagnyr
who is lying down, Lord Draezir, Gruenbak, Lord Alsthar, Asben, Dalirazza,
Maji, Lord Krovax, Lady Chalandrah, Lord Shonison, Lord Randsford, Kerl

Gruenbak shifts his eyes to Draezir.
You hear the ghostly voice of Mnar say, "Someone locate Poldarath"
Gruenbak says, "Temple of Lorminstra"
Krovax says, "she took the hard way out I guess"
You hear the ghostly voice of Mnar say, "Get those two up first."
Exitialis says, "Seven days be damned."
Draezir says, "I have sealed off this room, until the citizens make a change and behave."
Kilthal clearly says, "Perhaps burning down yer tent is in order then."
Kilthal clearly says, "Or maybe yer precious temple."
Draezir says, "Don't make me take away more privileges."
Draezir glances around the area and slowly raises his hands, and claps them sharply together! Shadows begin to churn and dance around in every direction!
